Philosophy
There are many ways for people and organisations to grow and develop. For me, development means responding to inner and outer stimuli. It is important to find the balance between what should be changed and what should be kept, respecting tradition and values, and integrating innovative ideas and new creative approaches.
Any development process involves a lot more that just techniques and knowledge. In my view, what is central is questioning personal attitudes, the values and visions of the people involved, as well as of the culture of the organisation in question. This is where the roots are for nurturing and controlling the present and future of individuals, groups and organisations.
Attitude & approach
My approach is based on systems thinking. I find it fascinating to look at the difference of the dynamics and processes, as well as of the structures and functions in terms of their rules of interaction and communication. In process consulting, the capability of the systems to organise themselves — in order to maintain and stabilise themselves — forms the basis of self-controlled development.
In communication, I believe it is essential that we see the world from the perspective of the other person, and that the underlying assumptions and valuations are allowed to reveal themselves, so that we can together explore new angles on things and new alternatives in terms of possible action.
Reflection takes on a significant role in my approach. Awareness of your own patterns of thought, feeling and orientation in individual and collective contexts is the precondition for development and change processes.
I approach each new assignment with an attitude of appreciation for what has already been achieved, as well as for the reality of the present.
Biography
My origins: As a native of Cologne, from an early age I have had a keen awareness in multicultural terms. Variety has always proved very attractive for me, and it was this that took me down the route of my studies in Romance languages, pedagogy and economic geography at German and French universities. I have had experience of other cultural environments on the occasion of longer stays abroad and travelling on different continents. After successfully completing my M.A., I spent a number of years in the business sector (banking and industry). Since the mid 1990s I have had the great pleasure of working as a self-employed process consultant, facilitator, trainer and coach for various corporate cultures (e.g., the automotive, chemicals and electronics industries, and the banking and insurance sectors).
